Time as decay or as gain
Time as decay or as gain
Time as decay or as gain
Time has been entrusted to us by God, and we will be accountable as to how we use it. Time can function either as decay or as gain. We can use it to become creative, or we can let it pass by ingloriously and allow it to devastate us until we slowly fade into non-existence. This is true regarding our relationship with God and with our fellow human beings. We can take advantage of every opportunity that time gives us to form loving relationships and nurture them by togetherness and communication, by sharing and showing empathy. In doing so, our relationships will journey through time and reach a beautiful maturity. Thus, they will continually blossom into a timeless loving coexistence. This will grant us all a quiet deep peace, a foretaste of eternity.
On the other hand, we can waste our time by getting lost in excessive busyness in our obsession to achieve fame or wealth. By doing this, each one of us will withdraw into his or her own small world of work and/or family. Thus we will pass our time with our insecurities and uncertainties, fears and hesitations. Whatever relationships we have will fall into idleness, and we will be left alone to struggle with the harsh reality that time, as well as people, pass by quickly. As an ancient philosopher once said: “No loss should be more regrettable to us than losing our time, for it is irretrievable” (Zeno of Citium).
